Leading and Managing Diversity

What is the current need for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion?

  • Do we accept that failure to implement a Diversity programme can be costly?

  • Do we accept that there are Diversity Links to Productivity and Performance, Retention & Productivity?

  • Have we considered the Link between the Lack of Diversity Programs and absenteeism, Diversity's Contribution to the Bottom Line?

  • Should we bother/should we be interested? Do we wish that we are better at it? What else can we do? Should diversity be confined to the fringes of our organisations or widened?

This tailored (2 or 3 day programme) helps organisations and individuals to boost over capacity and competency to lead and manage equality and diversity by taking a different approach to it. We concentrate on building leadership and management capability to tackle this interesting but challenging part of managing organisations, people and services. The Programme is about supporting the development of management and leadership understanding, knowledge and skills in relation to Equality and Diversity.

Objectives

The programme will tackle

  • Equality and diversity as an issue of strategic importance to organisations and considers.
  • What Do We Mean by Equal Opportunities and Diversity? The different meanings and levels to equality and diversity and its implications for practice.
  • Can a Perceived Intangible Asset Like Diversity Generate Tangible Benefits? What is the Business Case for Diversity?
  • The Business Case underpinning Equality and Diversity.
  • Organisational Change approach to Managing Diversity – confronting paradoxes and paradigms.
  • What are the management and leadership challenges.
  • What is Diversity Competency?
  • Leadership and management issues in relation to managing equality and diversity.

Outcomes (Participants will)

    1. Understand the definitions of equality and diversity and its implications for implementation.
    2. Understand the context and business case for diversity – helping you to develop your own business case.
    3. Understand the implementation issues identifying strengths and weaknesses of past practices and defining obstacles to effective implementation.
    4. Understand the issues relating to diversity competence and assessing your own level of competence and planning what action may be necessary to address any own learning gaps.
    5. Understand the role of managers and leaders in managing diversity as an issue of strategic cultural change.
    6. will be able to undertake a gap analysis of what needs to be done in your own organisation and identify possible actions.
    7. Understand and apply appropriate diversity competences to self and manager development.
    8. Understand what steps can be taken to make your own organisation become centres of Diversity Excellence?
