Getting the best from diverse teams - management challenges

Objectives
Managing & developing diverse workforce and teams; and
Developing and maintaining an effective organisational culture for getting the most out of people
This is a two or three day programme aimed at ensuring that the potential benefits of equality and diversity are realised in the arrangements made for managing and developing employees and staff from diverse backgrounds.
The programme extends the principles covered elsewhere (Leading and Managing Diversity) and provides managers with the key skills, knowledge and awareness to manage individuals and teams made up of people from different cultures and identity groups. It concentrates on dealing with performance, learning and development, grievance and disciplinary matters.
The programme will cover
- the legal context of diversity – the legal framework, legal concepts of discrimination and the duty to promote.
- What is diversity - the core areas of diversity (sex, race, disability, age, religion, sexual orientation, family responsibilities, part-time working etc).
- The practice of discipline - poor performance and capability, discipline and sickness absence management.
- The law underpinning performance, conduct etc. - ensuring compliance with the minimum statutory disciplinary procedures set out in Schedule 2 of the Employment Act. On 1 October the Employment Act 2002 (Dispute Resolution) Regulations 2004 came into force. They lay down disciplinary, dismissal and grievance procedures that provide a framework for discussing problems at work 2002.
- What is Reasonable adjustment under the DDA.
- Motivation and performance.
- About competencies and capabilities (policies and procedures) – the Key Areas and the importance of SMART objectives. What is confidential?
- Managing training, development and learning.
- The role of the manager in performance management.
Outcomes (Participants will understand)
- best practice in maintaining a positive approach to diversity and fairness to enable them to participate in mainstreaming diversity and equality
- Branding and local context/ Management, leadership and planning: Staffing and workplace relationships
- How to translate your organisation’s strategic objectives into measurable objectives reflecting appropriately diversity within performance
- How to dealing with problems and issues which arise during the course of appraisal meeting and learning how to cope with confident and diffident staff.
- Will understand the concepts of fairness and consistency and will be able to audit for ‘equal opportunities’ implications.
- Understand key aspects of Disciplinary Investigations and Disciplinary Hearings
- How to follow-up successfully after use of the discipline or poor performance procedure.
- What action to take to check standards, monitor and evaluate process and activities to ensure fairness
Cost per participant: £350
