Workshop 6

Diversity Breakthrough – From Assessment to Action

Programme dates: 19 October 2006 and 26 October 2006

This is an introductory workshop which compresses six phases of activities into 2/3 day workshop. This workshop is based on a series of activities and process to help organisations to push the reality of equality and diversity practice to reach a breakthrough stage.

The workshop concentrates on undertaking activities to mainstream diversity as a key business processes and a way of being - focusing on the. It is about seeing the management of diversity as a strategic approach to the organisation or business that contributes to achieving organisational goals (including non- profit goals or profit and productivity-related goals). It means that the organisation is sure they can meet existing legal requirements, take advantage of a changing labour market, meet its social obligations and take advantage of a multi-cultural workforce in a rapidly changing world.

The programme covers distinct phases as follows

  • Making and assessment of where the organisation is, by defining current realities in relation to where the organisation ought to be. If the organisation has not determined this to ask the question what should they be contemplating including making an assessment of the business case for diversity?
  • Looking at strategies for developing support for change.
  • Implementing actions to move forward from the current reality to creating an inclusive workforce.
  • More action to keep momentum.
  • What to do to monitor, measure progress and celebrate achieved goals
  • Establishing accountability through shared ownership.

Outcomes

Each session will focus on actions to be taken on the six areas listed below. At the end of the programme participant organisations will have developed activities and actions to support organisational infrastructure to achieve diversity.
